WTT Contender Lagos 2024

The WTT Contender Lagos 2024 is set to take place from June 17 to June 23 at the Molade-Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall in Lagos, Nigeria. This event marks the second consecutive year that Lagos will host this prestigious table tennis tournament, following a successful debut in 2023​.

The tournament will feature top table tennis talent from around the world, including at least eight of the top 50 players globally. Notable participants include Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Brazil’s Hugo Calderano, and Korea’s Lim Jonghoon. In the women’s singles category, China’s Shin Yubin aims to defend her title​.

Nigeria’s own Aruna Quadri, a prominent figure in African table tennis, will headline the local competitors. He will be joined by other Nigerian talents such as Olajide Omotayo, Offiong Edem, and Bello Fatimo, who recently qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics​

The event director, Dr. Kweku Tandoh, expressed enthusiasm for hosting the tournament again, highlighting the overwhelming support from Lagos fans and the city’s warm hospitality. The Lagos State Government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been praised for providing a supportive environment for such international events​.

The WTT Contender Lagos is part of a broader initiative to put Lagos on the global table tennis map, demonstrating the city’s capability to host major sporting events and contributing to the growth of table tennis in Africa.
