The WTT Contender Lagos is set to elevate Lagos, Nigeria, onto the global table tennis stage. Hosted at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, this prestigious event and feature top players from around the world. Participants hail from countries including India, South Korea, Germany, China, Cameroon, Egypt, Benin Republic, Ghana, Algeria, Denmark, and more.
According to Event Director Dr. Kweku Tandoh, the tournament has evolved significantly since its inception in 2013. Initially starting as the Lagos International Table Tennis Classics, it later gained recognition and approval from the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) as the ITTF Nigeria Open. This event ran successfully for several years before transitioning to the WTT Contender Series.
The current series not only highlights Lagos on the global table tennis map but also serves as crucial preparation for players gearing up for the upcoming Olympics. Barr. Wahid Enitan Oshodi, the LOC Chairman and ITTF Vice President, emphasized the unique atmosphere of the Lagos event, crediting its success to the passionate fans and supportive media around the world.
