Day 4 of WTT Contender Lagos 2026 turned the Sir Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall into a cauldron of pressure, passion, and unforgettable rallies as the tournament moved into its decisive stages.
With quarterfinal places on the line, the intensity inside the Lagos arena rose from the very first serve. Fans filled the stands early, waving Nigerian flags and chanting through every dramatic point as players battled for survival in one of Africa’s biggest table tennis events.
Top seed Anders LIND continued his impressive run in the men’s singles draw, using his sharp attacking game and calm composure to move one step closer to the title. Korea’s LIM Jonghoon looked equally dangerous, combining speed and power to dominate crucial rallies during another confident victory.
Nigeria’s Taiwo MATI/Matthew KUTI once again became the crowd favorite in men’s double event . Every point won by the home star sparked deafening celebrations across the arena as local supporters pushed him through a tense contest against international opposition. Although pressure mounted late in the match, the Nigerian showed courage and determination that earned respect from everyone inside the hall.
France’s Lilian BARDET and Romania’s Andrei ISTRATE also impressed on Day 4, producing fearless performances against higher-ranked opponents. Meanwhile, KIM Gaon continued to show why many believe he could become one of the breakout stars of the tournament.
In the women’s singles draw, top seed KIM Gaon maintained complete control with another dominant display to secure her place in the later rounds. Nigeria’s Fatimo BELLO fought bravely in front of home fans, delivering powerful forehand attacks that kept the crowd alive throughout her match.
Japanese defensive specialists Hitomi SATO and Honoka HASHIMOTO frustrated opponents with their incredible chopping and consistency, turning long rallies into tactical battles that thrilled table tennis purists. Germany’s Franziska SCHREINER also advanced after a composed performance under pressure.
